Vinyl Booty Shorts

Recently, I’ve been on a sexy clothing kick, buying a bunch of stuff to sate my inner vixen. I saw a pair of vinyl booty shorts online and I bought them thinking, “Oh, those will be hot!”

When they got delivered, I excitedly opened the package and tried them on. Or rather, tried to try them on. I literally couldn’t get them up and past my butt. I pulled harder, and I heard stitches snap in protest. Maybe I could have ordered a size larger. But really, this material doesn’t have much give. If I had gotten them larger, they probably wouldn’t fit in the waist. What to do? Return them, exchange them? Give them away to a smaller-bootied friend?

Or, get crafty? Yeeeah. I like the sound of that better.

So, I bought 5 feet of red silk ribbon and got to work. I cut straight down the sides of the shorts…

And then folded the exposed edges in and stitched them down with black thread. I knew it didn’t have to be a perfect sewing job– just good enough to keep the edges down and keep the seams from unraveling.

I made little slits at the top and bottom of each edge with a sharp paring knife.

And threaded through the slits with the ribbon. To get the ribbon through the tiny slits, I stuck a pair of tweezers through the opening. I fit the end of a ribbon in the tweezer points…

…Then pulled the tweezers back out through the slit to “thread” the ribbon through!

This is the finished, laced up product. I wanted the ribbon ends to sit on the tops of my thighs at the bottom of the shorts, so I threaded from the top down.

And here’s what they look like on:

I hope you like the idea… you can incorporate this corset detail onto almost any piece of clothing if you think about it…! Happy crafting = )
